As a result of scheduling conflicts the Eighth Grade Band performance previously planned for Feb. 10th in the high school gymnasium has been moved to February 9th. The concert will begin at 8:45am in the high school gymnasium. The band will be performing its MMEA Program for all 6th-8th grade students. This concert is open to the public.
The Fergus Falls High School speech team opened its season at Breckenridge on Feb. 4 and had a very good start to the season. The team fielded 20 contestants, and 10 of them returned with medals.
Medal winners included the entire discussion team of Jordan Rasmusson and two first-time competitors in the category, Jenny Marx and Rachel Appert. Jenny placed 6th and Rachel won the 5th place medal, while Jordan was awarded 1st place. In the informative speaker category, Megan Fritz placed 3rd, followed closely in 6th by Delaney Schara.
Two of the FFHS dramatic duo interpretation teams came away with honors, as well. The team of Ethan Valentine and Rebecca Scott took 2nd place, and the freshman team of Ashley Stevenson and Brooke Wallington took 6th. Also medaling were Shelby Thomason in extemporaneous reading and Ben Haugmo in creative expression.
It was good to see so many contestants do so well this early in the season. The coaches are confident that the team will continue to improve as the season goes go and that there will be many more accolades for this talented and young team.
Meetings for parents and high school students have been scheduled as course registration begins for the 2010-2011 school year.
Counselors will go into classrooms to meet with current 8th graders on Friday, Feb. 5. Class meetings for current 9th, 10th and 11th graders will be during the week of Feb. 8.
Class meetings for current 9th graders will be during their English classes on Wednesday, Feb. 10; class meetings for current 10th graders will be during their U.S. history classes on Thursday, Feb. 11; and class meetings for current 11th graders will be during their world history classes on Friday, Feb. 12.
